Electrical
We provide Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) electrical engineering designs for new and existing industrial, commercial and residential developments. Reliability, fit for purpose and cost-efficiency are always top of mind for our electrical engineers.
Some of our areas of services are:
Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) reticulation for commercial and industrial applications
Electrical reticulation is the provision of electrical infrastructure and metering equipment necessary to allow the delivery of electricity from the point of connection to the various loads in the network. At Cyntech we have extensive knowledge of various municipalities requirements and our designs focus on the financial optimisation as an integral component in the process. The goal being an effective and efficient, holistic network.
Low Voltage Distribution Board (DB) and Motor Control Centre (MCC) design
Distribution boards are central points which distribute power to various loads. Motor Control Centres are simply physical groupings of combination starters in a single assembly. While DB designs can be technical with many aspects to consider, we focus on keeping it simple whilst still ensuring protection discrimination and coordination are carefully considered. When it comes to MCC design, and while we are able to meet any client’s requirements, we tend to place a strong emphasis on intelligent relays such as Siemens Simocodes due to the increased diagnostics and safety features which they provide. The future integration into Industry 4.0 and IIoT also becomes seamless and allows for predictive maintenance opportunities in the future. All things considered, you can rest assured that our designs meet all industry requirements no matter the application.
Lightning protection, power earthing and surge protection systems
At Cyntech, we believe that high-priority assets require high-priority protection. And as industry leaders in Lightning Protection, Power Earthing and Surge Protection Systems, we are always innovating and researching ways to broaden our knowledge base and improve our designs. We want you to be able to continue working with peace of mind regardless of lightning storms and electronic surges. Because high-priority Process control equipment, such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), contain sensitive electronics that are at high risk during electronic surges, the protection of the equipment is vital to continuous sustainable processes.
At Cyntech, we are committed to ensuring that we make the right decisions so that the reliability of your process plants and production lines are not compromised. This is why we offer a specialised and focused Lightning Protection Assessment service that evaluates a terminals current risk exposure and recommends the corrective measures that can be implemented in order to reduce that risk

Thermography
Faulty electrical switchgear, connections or imbalanced loads may cause hot spots in motor control centres and distribution boards. These hot spots are often invisible to the naked eye and can create a major possibility of a fire or explosion. Defects related to transformers, like low oil levels or bad connections, can be detected early on and can potentially reduce the chance of critical downtime.
A great deal of the power distribution in petrochemical plants goes towards driving motors. Preventing these motors from failure and adopting a proactive approach is vital to minimising operational downtime. Problems such as misalignment, high vibration, faulty fans, etc. could be detected using thermography. The possibilities for using thermography to aid predictive maintenance in process plants and renewable energy can be endless.

Energy management and power quality monitoring
Power quality refers to the quality of the electrical supply from the grid and the ability of electrical equipment to consume the energy being supplied to it. Electrical equipment’s efficiency may be affected by a number of factors, including electrical harmonics, poor power factor, voltage instability and imbalance. This has a number of consequences including higher energy usage with increased costs, higher maintenance costs and equipment instability and failure.
With Cyntech’s assistance, power quality, usage, costs and safety can be improved and optimised. Not only do we have the physical equipment necessary to conduct these studies and measure power quality but we are able to interrogate measured data and provide a power quality solution to suit the application. Cyntech’s comprehensive analysis will lay down the foundation that ensures the best performing installation.

Power factor correction design
Power factor measures how efficiently electrical power is converted into useful work-output. “One” is the ideal power factor, indicating unity. and anything less than this indicates extra power being required to complete the relevant task. A lower power factor indicates additional strain on electricity supply and electricity costs. Power factor can be brought as close as possible to unity through power factor correction (PFC).
PFC is largely an economic exercise and at Cyntech we treat it as such by evaluating the electrical data and determining whether savings can actually be realised. We focus on the financial aspect with a clear indication of potential future savings in relation to the upfront installation cost. If you are concerned about PF, allow us to do any analysis for you and put your mind at ease.

Standby generator and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems
Standby generators and UPS systems have become regular talking points in South Africa with the uncertainty around the reliability of our electrical supply. When considering a backup supply, it is important to consider many aspects. For example, what part of the load would need an essential supply? Perhaps only certain parts of an operation are essential which is crucial to understand as not only can backup systems be an expensive outlay but the running costs of diesel also add up.
At Cyntech, we approach backup systems with a holistic approach and first assess the needs of the client as well as the operation, before considering which options would be most viable. Our approach is fit for purpose with cost optimisation forming an integral part of the design.

Electrical design for residential, commercial and industrial building developments
At Cyntech, we approach building services engineering with a focus on achieving a safe and comfortable indoor environment, whilst also reducing the impact on the environment at the same time. Energy efficient and intelligent lighting systems, communication networks, fire detection, access control with security systems, intelligent building automation and renewable energy generation are all aspects we tackle when designing the optimum system for any building development.
